Thrifting, Ethiopian Food, Banana Cream Pie, and Biodiesel Oasis!

Updated: Oct 19, 2021

Hello loves!!!! Welcome back to the Newsletter. It is official my first-day-of-college-eve and I am pretty excited. My first class is an 8:00 am tomorrow for Spanish (a language I have not spoken for over a year lol. With all of this crazy weather in the bay area, I am hoping just they don't turn off our power for my first week of classes. To fill in those who are not in the Bay, we pretty much experienced the craziest weather of all time: 45 MPH winds, 100+ degree heat, thunder, lightning, and fires. I of course was sleeping OUTSIDE last night in my tent through it all but luckily Caroline came out to save me. Please stay safe everyone, because now the pandemic is not the only apocalypse we are experiencing. Why must life only get crazier? Okay, now onto the letter.

Tweets of the Week

If you don't have twitter downloaded at this point, idk what to tell you

I have no idea why Hannah tweeted this, but it resonated with me :)

YUP

Idk if this actually funny or if my humor is broken beyond repair...

Keeping up with Caleb

As many of you know from past newsletters, Caleb is currently doing the Continental Ridge Trail! An update from his trip is that he is now in Jackson Hole. He has been hiking with his friends and seeing so many amazing sites. When I was on the phone with him he was eating an entire jar of Nutella to stock up on calories!

Here he is looking like a full-on mountain man!

Ooh Lala

Some beautiful art from Annika!!

Last week I asked you guys your favorite kombuchas because it is my absolute obsession!

Eric likes the two brands Marin Kombucha and Better Booch, both are amazing in my opinion!

Alex likes Synergy Trilogy, which is the first kombucha I ever tried.

Shannon loves Synergy Gingerade!

Annika says GT's is the best brand BY FAR. Fav flavors are multigreen, guava goddess, and the limited edition "pure love" one (if you like Pure Love, try Roseberry!)

Anne likes watermelon GT's and Boochcraft (good for the 21+ crowd)

Avery recommends the Revive hibiscus flavor!

Lo loves Marin Kombucha pinot sage and Humm coconut lime

Ravi fav is GT's Kombucha Mango Madness

Thrifting, Ethiopian Food, Banana Cream Pie, and Biodiesel Oasis!

I went to Berkeley with Will this week, a common activity for us. We had a pretty funky day exploring! We knew for sure that we would be visiting Kaffa Ethiopian, one of our favorite restaurants that happen to be black-owned and vegan!

We both ordered different plates of delicious food, and while we waited for it to ready we decided to go on a little walk. We ended up across the street at a gas station called Biofuel Oasis. In addition to being a place to get renewable recycled biodiesel, it also has a minimart that functions as a zero waste, beekeeping, chicken raising, market! You could buy kombucha making kits, all sorts of kitchen products, and urban farming supplies. Certainly, something you would only find in Berkeley! I bought some honey (made by the shopkeeper) and stationary there, but if I ever am looking to raise some bees, I know this is the place to shop.

This is my haul! Once our food was ready, we headed to Willard park to enjoy the sun.

Next up it was time to visit Timeless Coffee, an all vegan coffee shop! We picked up a vegan gluten-free banana cream pie to share that we had tried there last summer.

We also got some iced tea and a matcha latte to bring to Annie. We drove up to Annie's house and met her for a social distance chat during one of her work breaks.

After a bit of time on her doorstep, we headed to Telegraph for some shopping. We found a goldmine at Mars Vintage and both got many new fun closet additions. My favorite things I got include an 80s prom dress, a button-up that features instructions on how to fish, and a new jean jacket. Will also got a jean jacket, as well as a VERY fun sweater and button-up.

Overall, Berkely was a great place for adventure as always :)

Another Week, Another Drive-In

I went to see a drive-in movie of Abba's Mamma Mia! and it was so darn fun. I went with the Hardings and we had a great time singing along.

That is all for this week!! Love you all so much, please stay in touch :)

xoxoxo

Claire

P.S.

I recommend buying farmer's market flowers next time you are there :)
