Hello darling friends! When you last hear from me, I was venting my reservations about starting college, now I have completed my first week! With that, my relaxed summer/quarantine schedule has definitely been turned on its head, and I may not have as much time for lengthy newsletters. I am going to try my best to keep up the *consistency* of these letters, though they will probably be shorter. Many of you have probably also received snail mail recently, and if you haven't, email me your address and you can expect a letter from me! I hope my fellow college students are having a smooth transition whether it be to virtual or in-person classes. And to everyone else, hang in there. Remember, you've got a friend in me!
Tweets of the week!
I need to make more friends in college so I can have this feeling again.
I don't know how I communicated before I had this emoji.
That's the that on that.
Quarantunes
With the first week of school, I have been relying on music to keep me going throughout my busy days. Here are some recent favs!
Motion Sickness by Pheobe Bridgers- shout out to Annie for convincing me to fall in love with this song!
Mr. Loverman by Ricky Montgomery- I love this artist so much, and this song has recently become Tik Tok song which has really got me back into it. It makes me emo but like in a good way.
Girls & Boys by Good Charlotte- This song gets me sooooo hyped and is a perfect thing to listen to before class.
A Life That's Good from Nashville- I have never seen this show, but this song is so good and is a great reminder to be grateful.
Hurt Feelings by Mac Miller- this song always comes back to me when I am experiencing a time of change.

The News From Hanken Drive
Many of you probably read this letter solely for the Grandpa updates, so here is this week's.
Grandpa's recent hobby is walking across the street to the tennis courts every night to watch the sunset. I walked over with him on Friday.
He also likes to sit by the pool in the evening and talk to us, recently we have been discussing the presidential election and college. He is fine with Kamala, but he said he would have picked Elizabeth Warren. He also shared an interesting fact: he had never heard of pizza until after World War II.
Today I picked us up some treats at the gelato seller in San Anselmo. I had a lemon sorbetto and he had a salted caramel milkshake.
Bike Ride
Emma took me on a 13-mile mountain bike ride on Friday, and I had so much fun! It was my first time on the bike since my Summer in Davis and I really enjoyed it.
Let's talk about social media...
As you guys know, I really love social media. I use it all the time to document my life, share my thoughts, and keep up with my friends who live all over the world. But recently social media has been making me feel not-so-great. It is really hard to watch other kids move into college, hang out in large groups, and flaunt their "quarantine glow ups." I can't help but compare my life to others, now more than ever. But I also feel like I can't get away. After all, social media is how I have been able to connect with most people I have met at USC, stay updated on my old high school friend's lives, and sometimes even get breaking news information about Covid-19 and the wildfires. I also love running Claire Can Cook more than anything else, and I of course can't let go of that.
Though I don't have a solution for avoiding this toxicity, I do have some social media that I have found to be more positive and less about people projecting the highlight reel of their lives.
I have run two miles every day for the past 30+ days (with the exception of today because I did CrossFit) and Strava is an app that lets me track all of my runs. It also has a social media element where you can follow your friends and check out what they are doing. Its also not just for running, it features everything from biking to paddleboarding to skating! Jack had been raving about this app for months so I finally downloaded it! It is an app for anyone who loves movies, you can log what you watch, review films, and find movies to watch later. This app has a light social element where you can see what your friends are watching. Follow me @clorpclorp.
I actually interned for this app last year and they have made dramatic improvements to their product since then. This is a social media app where you can review vegan meals and products and it is so much fun! Follow me @clairecancook
Quarantine Diaries
I have written in a diary every single day since the county mandated shut down in Marin, I just started my third composition book, marking 160 days of quar.
That's all for this week, I love and miss you all dearly. You know the deal, please text/email me anything and everything (especially art!). Hope you all have a good week :)
xoxoxo
Claire
P.S.
This is a pic of the sky the other night with no filter. The hazy look is all wildfire smoke.
