I'm Obsessed with the Babysitter's Club

Updated: Oct 19, 2021

Hello loves! Welcome back. I am keeping this one short and sweet because I trying to make sure I can cram everything I need to finish this weekend into this evening. I hope everyone is doing well, I for one am pretty exhausted. In addition to my heavy course load this week I also babysat every day. I also wanted to announce that I will be living in Portland, Oregon for the month of October with Caroline. We have been planning this almost all Summer and our plans are finally set in stone. I know that isn't for a while but I didn't want to surprise anyone when I started my voyage. And with that, onto the letter!

Tweets of the Week

OH MY GOD I WANT ONE

I have never been to Chicago but this closing hit me so hard

I have never had any of these but when I do you can expect me to say this ❤️

Rio Appreciation!

Not much to say and I know this pic is scary but isn't she cute?

Vegan Pop Up!

Caroline, Will, and I went to VeeGee's vegan popup this week and it was so yummy and fun. Marin has zero dedicated vegan restaurants so I am very happy about this. San Rafael's 4th street was closed down for outdoor eating and it was great to eat under the lights. I had these delicious tacos and potatoes and we all shared carrot cake for dessert!

The News From Hanken Drive (What's up with Grandpa)

I saw Grandpa several times this week and he is holding up well. Every time I ask him "what did you do today" and he always responds "Less than I should have." Grandpa does not have much else to do besides read books, check email, watch tv, and go on a daily walk. He likes to come to the pool with us to socialize, but we only can go about once a week. I hope the world becomes safer for him soon because he loves exploring more than anyone else I know.

Ooh La La!

These two paintings by Alex F. are inspired by the isolation and wildfire smoke that has been consuming many of our lives recently. I adore these, especially the second. I am so inspired by how she is able to express her situation in visual art.

Layla made this checkerboard butterfly tray out of polymer clay! Isn't it darling? You Need to watch The Babysitter's Club on Netflix

About two months ago by some random chance, I decided to download episode one of The Babysitter's Club onto my iPad for a trip to Tahoe. Layla, Abby, and I watched it because we were in the mood for something light-hearted. I immediately fell in love with this modern take on the franchise, and as soon as I got home I begged Caroline and Minty to watch it with me. They quickly got on board too, and with that our Babysitter's Club obsession was born. The show only has one season so far and 10 episodes so we savored it, watching only about once a week. The show rotates perspectives between Kristy, Claudia (the most iconic), Stacy, Marianne, and Dawn, the founders of the club. Together they conquer the challenges of middle school, tweenage drama, and bigger social issues. Yes, I know what you are thinking, "isn't this show for middle schoolers?" Though that may be the target audience, I assure you it is enjoyable and appropriate for all ages. The show is tastefully updated from the original 1980s settings without the plot being sickenly modern or overrun by technology. I literally became a babysitter after watching a few episodes of this show. I can't recommend this show enough and I truly believe it is one of the best parts of 2020.

Farmer's Market Sorbet :)

You may have on Claire Can Cook that I made farmer's market sorbet this week! Here is the general idea of the recipe:

6 nectarines

1 basket strawberry

Juice of 1 lemon

1 cup of sugar

Pinch of salt

1/4 cup water

Chop up fruit and heat with water on the stove at medium heat for about 10 minutes until soft. Then blend until smooth in a blender, food processor, or with an immersion blender. Then strain out the seed. Chill in the fridge for an hour. Put in ice cream make for 20 minutes then chill and serve!

That's all for this week! Love you all dearly, please stay in touch.

xoxoxo

Claire
