Another Weekend, Another Winery

Updated: Oct 19, 2021

Hello and welcome back to Consistent Distant Love! I hope everyone is holding and managing to fill your days and try new things. I have had a pretty good week, but I did take a bad fall this morning while I was running (ripped my favorite Lululemons unfortunately). Now onto the letter!!

Tweets of the Week

Twitter is keeping me sane as always!

This is who I aspire to be

Yup :)

I would believe it!

Quarantunes

I have been a music rut recently and am desperately trying to find new stuff, but I am also retreating to some older favorites! Long story short, send me your best playlists because I need to mix it up. Here are some songs that helped get me through the week:

Hot Girl Bummer by Blackbear- Somehow when everything in the world feels wrong, this song feels right.

Leaving on a Jet Plane by Peter, Paul and Mary- This song absolutely makes me feel some kind of way.

Lonely Mexico by Dylan Owen- This song has lyrics that describe feelings I could never put my finger on in the best kind of way.

Pink Party!

Is it crazy to go to brunch just to wear an outfit? Probably. Did we do it? Yes. Natalia and I both have a pretty strong affinity for pink and brunch, so we, of course, did not have much better to do than to plan a pink-themed brunch. Natalia and I both had pink outfits that were too fancy for most quarantine occasions, so now was as good a time as any to pull them out. We went to Half Day Cafe (all Marin people know this iconic spot), which was perfect because their vibrant pink lemonade perfectly matched our theme. We dined and chatted, essentially pretending we were grown-up versions of Fancy Nancy. Not much else was special to report about this brunch, but the aesthetics made it to die for!

Amy's Drive-Thru in Marin :)

Most of you probably know about my obsession with Amy's drive-through, and I am happy to announce it is open in Marin (finally read about the history of the project here). I of course am thrilled to have such a Claire-diet-friendly restaurant in town! Natalia and I had fun going through in her convertible!

Miranda's Cross Country Virtual Cocktail Mixology

Miranda recently tried a fun experience to shake up her week during quarantine, and was so kind to write about it for the letter! Here is her story:

This past Thursday morning I was scrolling TikTok while eating breakfast as I do any other day when I came across a video from @theparadise.bartender; specifically about her new AirBnb experience. Immediately I texted one of my best friends, Abby H, who lives across the country if she was busy on Saturday; spoiler alert - she was free. Once I got the confirm she was in I booked our spots and we began checking the list of ‘What to bring’.

Friday rolls around and I get my shopping done; find everything at the local grocery besides blue curacao and mango puree. For that I jaunted on over to Bevmo to grab the lagging items – once secured I shot a selfie to Abby my co-cocktail class attendee confirming I was ready!

In classic Miranda fashion I was running late from no-where; had been hanging around the house and lost track of time but was still able to grab my things in the last 15 mins prior and set up my space!

The process of the actual experience was smooth; Airbnb sent us an email minutes before that had a ‘join video call’ button link that popped open the Zoom call. Ashley of @theparadise.bartender welcomed us each warmly by name while everyone got settled. She then kicked it off with an introduction of herself and passed it off to the two couples and Abby & I to share who we were and where we were tuning in from. Fun fact Ashley let us know partway through that we were her first ever class!

As we got started, she taught us how to cut pineapple and lime garnishes before we started mixing! The cocktails started off with a classic Pina Colada followed by a fun drinking game to break the ice. The next cocktail was called The Blue Hawaiian, followed by a fun cocktail where we got to play with layering fruit purees and grenadine; a Mango Daiquiri.

The overall experience was an hour long and then of course my friend and I hopped on facetime after to drink our delicious cocktails and catch up. While it’s not the same as something in person - under social distance circumstances or not it’s such a fun date night, romantic or friend.

Overall, cannot recommend @theparadise.bartender’s experience more! But if cocktails are not your thing there are a ton of unique AirBnb experiences, from ‘making street tacos with a pro’ to ‘pasta with the grandmas’ and ‘meditation with a Japanese Buddhist Monk’, that I am equally as eager to explore.

Sassy Celeb of the Week: Nicki Minaj

Nicki is honestly the definition of versatility and talent. Her discography has so much to offer and never fails to get me hyped. In quarantine, I have had more time to embrace my inner-Barb and I am so glad. I can't wait for her to have her kid! Love you Mrs. Petty!!

Another Weekend, Another Winery

This weekend Taylor was home after months of being away working at her recently relocated Space X job in Texas. She of course missed Northern California and wanted to take in as much as she could during her short visit. Caroline decided a trip to wine country was in order, so off we went to Napa (I provided my services as a designated driver). We cruised up the freeway to our first stop, Black Stallion Winery. Here the girls enjoyed a tasting of a flight of reds and a charcuterie board, and I had a root beer Oli Pop. It was fun to hear all of Taylor's tales from work and what she's been up to since we last saw her. Black Stallion had a gorgeous patio overlooking the vineyard that also gave us plenty of room to be far away from any other parties. Our next stop was Domaine Chandon which is famous for its sparkling wines. This estate was gorgeous and had so much land to explore! Taylor and Caroline tasted five different sparkling wines, and I was surprised by a flight of three mocktails. I loved my drinks, and my favorite was the Carneros Cooler. After this winery, I carted the tipsy big girls home, sure to make a stop at a fruit stand to get some summer fruits! I had so much fun getting to see Taylor and exploring Napa!

What is our favorite song on Folklore?

Last week I asked y'all which track on Folklore is your favorite, and these are the results! Happy listening :)

Kombuch-YA

I have been an avid kombucha drinker since 2014 and I am always dying to hear my friend's favorite flavors and find new ones to try. If you are a fellow kombucha lover, let me know here!

That's all for this week's letter! I love and miss you all so much! Please be in touch and share your writing, art, and thoughts with me!

xoxoxo
