Hello loves! Welcome back to Consistent Distant Love! I hope everyone is holding up well and finding ways to pass the time. My week was pretty chill and I spent the weekend at the cabin (big surprise lol). On to the letter!
Tweets of the Week!
ALL THE TIME
The true divide (I'm a look at their costar)
Ugh I am so truly obsessed with mail
Sassy Celeb of the Week: Yung Gravy
I turned on some Yung Gravy in the car this weekend for the first time in a while, and it instantly took me back to cruising around with my friends in high school. Gravy's music is light-hearted, fun, and has some very clever lyrics. He somehow walks the line of being a meme and an artist in a way that I find very impressive. Yes, I did preorder some of his Hi-C themed merch.
The News from Hanken Drive (what's up with grandpa)
Grandpa and I got a lot done this week! We wrote birthday cards for family members with summer birthdays, looked at pictures of European countries of our ancestors, and drank grape soda from Shake Shack!
Sunflower Drive-In: where chickens run free
This weekend on our way home from the cabin we decided to make a stop in Sacramento to see Caroline's freshman year college roommate, Lexi. When we asked her a good place with vegan options to pick up l lunch, she suggested Sunflower Drive-In. This place had a total hippie vibe and was founded in 1978. They are located in Fair Oaks, a part of Sacramento where chickens can be found strutting around parks and parking lots, and literally crossing the road. To learn more about the chickens, read this article!
We all got veggie burgers, which were absolutely to die for and I am so glad I got the opportunity to try it. If you ever are in Sac, you must go here!
Quarantunes
Sometimes by Anthony Amorim- This song makes me feel so many feelings, and I honestly have nothing better to do than feel things!
Favorite Holiday by Summer Salt- I love this song! It is so simple but makes me so happy.
Chiquitita by ABBA- I love to waltz around my house to this song and it always makes me feel a little better.
Barbz Bracelets
This weekend we discovered Will is VERY good a making friendship bracelets!
Serene Lakes has a Mermaid?
During a sunset canoe ride, Will pointed out a mermaid on a distant rock. Of course, we thought he was joking, but as we got closer we could not believe our eyes! I have been going to this lake my whole life, but I had never seen a mermaid there before!
Drive-in Movie
On Thursday for Will's half birthday, we went to a drive-in movie showing of Dirty Dancing! As soon as I posted that I was there on social media, I got so many responses asking where it was (I even got a VSCO dm which I did not realize was a thing). The movie was at Bon Air and was hosted by the Lark. It was free admission, but the tickets ran out super fast so thank you Caroline for securing us one. The film itself was a little strange, but I appreciated the overall campiness and its iconic moments. I had never been to a drive-in movie before, and many of you probably haven't either so here are some of my take-aways.
You can talk during the movie!! It was very fun to give commentary and opinions as the movie went along, something you can't normally do in the theatre.
You have to use the radio to tune-in so it is important to make sure you turn off your car every once in a while to avoid the battery dying.
You can sing along and go crazy, but remember that your car has windows. We were really enthusiastic about some of our cheering and dancing, which got us some looks from the judgemental teens in the car next to us.
I overall loved this experience and I recommend going to one if you can! Here is a link to upcoming ones in Marin!
Ooh Lala!
Niharika's art blows me away as per usual!! Like so amazing I can barely comprehend!
Grace painted this stop sign and it looks so darn cool!! Can someone start a petition to make all stop signs look like this?
The Great Outdoors
Last week I asked where you have enjoyed spending time outdoors, and here are your answers!
Gabriella likes hiking on Mount Tam
Lily has been exploring the Marin Watershed lands
Ravi likes Bolinas-Fairfax Ridge, basic but we all can agree the sunsets slap
Caroline enjoys the Priory Swim and Tennis Club
Alex has been enjoying heading up to Tahoe, just like me!
Instead of doing a form this week, I would love if you just emailed me a short story about a recent event in your life. It can be a few sentences or a few paragraphs, anything works! That's all for this week's letter! Love you all so much!
xoxoxo
